Google released an app they call Search-based Keyword Tool. Google says this tool “generates keyword and landing page ideas highly relevant and specific to your website” and in doing so, “helps you identify additional advertising opportunities that aren’t currently being used in your AdWords ad campaigns.” (Google AdWords already has a keywords tool. Google says as opposed to the existing tool, this new one “generates keyword ideas based on your website, and identifies those currently not being used in your AdWords account”.)

  • Microsoft tries pricing ploy via Google Apps Submitted by Google Subnet on Wed, 11/19/2008

Microsoft has officially invaded Google Apps' turf by opening up its Exchange and SharePoint Online products to just about everyone. And as part of the online onslaught, Microsoft is introducing a new a la carte pricing scheme aimed at undercutting Google Apps' one-price-fits-all model. But buyer beware: there's more (expense) to the scheme than meets the eye, at least that's how eWeek's Clint Boulton sees it.

  • Google puts 10 million Life photos online Submitted by Google Subnet on Wed, 11/19/2008

Maybe Google is really serious about digitizing all of the world's knowledge. The company struck a deal with Life Magazine to make Life's complete 10 million image archive publicly accessible via Google's image search. And that means that just about anyone with a browser can now view (and download) these historical images, including famous shots from the Civil War era all the way up to the Vietnam War and beyond. An Android Future by Garett Kopczynski

The T-Mobile G1 Google phone is set to start hitting the markets soon, and with this hanging in the air other companies are stepping up Android development. Motorola announced they too will have an Android phone, putting the focus on social networking sites like Myspace and Facebook which will be optimized for the smart phone. This kind of move certainly indicates an attempt to move in on a younger audience rather than the business professional that smart phones have typically targeted. The...

Gmail Rolls Out Themes by Philipp Lenssen

A couple of months ago it was mentioned here that Google’s web mail client Gmail might get themes, like a black-and-green terminal view, and the waiting time seems to be over soon – Google announced they’ve started to roll out this feature. While I don’t see it in my Gmail yet (the screenshots in this post are courtesy of Andris and Google), it’s supposed to be added to a Themes tab in your settings. Note some themes are dynamic and may change throughout different...

Assembling the Android army: a matter of "we" by Mark Murphy

The "Assembling the Android army" series of posts is where I provide completely unsolicited advice to Google and the Open Handset Alliance on strategies and tactics for growing the base of Android developers, to better cement Android's place in the mobile platform marketplace. One of the key areas of interest among Android developers is the "soft keyboard". While the hardware keyboard of the T-Mobile G1 has been one of its strong selling points, it does not cover every...
